Comparing my painting to the photograph that it is recreating (No tracing, mine is done by eye only), here are all the changes drawn on the painting that I need to make to bring the painting the last 10 percent of the way so that it looks more like the photograph. (Or enough to where I'll be satisfied with it.) I need to make her nose wider, move her eyes up and make them not wide, add more detail into her hair and soften all of the hair detail, finish the detail on the hand, add hair detail on the forward shoulder, white dress is too bright, add her jewelry, add more yellowish green bounced light to her skin where appropriate, lighten the dark greens in the background, make her lips thicker and lighten the color, and a few other things. After all that
I'll need to add film grain overall which should finish it.

Alright this is only 90 percent done. I looked at a photograph of Rihanna and recreated it from scratch. No tracing, no copying or pasting. The photograph was only used as visual reference. I'm still tweaking this painting. I've spent 10 hours working on it. I'll post the finished piece once it's done. I think I'm almost to the point where I think I'm just now at that point to where if I can visualize it in my mind clearly then I should be able to paint it just like this. We'll see...

This was my first attempt at creating a realistic
digital painting. I looked at a photograph and
recreated it from scratch. No tracing, no copying
or pasting. My hope is that if I can reproduce what
I see accurately then I should be able to do the
same thing for images in my mind. I'll do one more
study like this, but next time I'll include a person.
If I can bridge that gap then ....well we'll see...

Hey guys, I created these two characters for a
film that never made it off the ground. My
rooster character won the the lead part, but
I guess my donkey character looked to close
to either the donkey from Shrek or the up comming film Donkey Xote from Filmax Animation.I had not seen the Filmax stuff before or during creating these characters, though. Here

they are. This is a cartoony style. I was just learning to paint using photoshop comfortably.

I'm sure I'll do some more work in this style in

the future. It was really fun. I'm trying to really

push my painting style in a more realistic direction so that I can do some matte-painting and concept art work. We'll see how far in that direction I can get via the posts that follow this one.
